Biography

 

Actress and voice-over artist Shelley Ray hails from a small farming town north of Grand Rapids, Michigan. While studying acting at college, Shelley received a Best Supporting Actress award from Ann Arbor Civic Theatre for her work as Celia in “As You Like It,“ and was also nominated Best Supporting Actress by The Ann Arbor News for her performance of Nena in “The Conduct of Life.”

After graduating from college, Shelley moved to New York and immediately began her acting career doing national tours. She has appeared off-Broadway in New York Theatre Workshop’s “Far Away,” directed by Stephen Daldry, and starring Frances McDormand. She also performed at The Public Theater in the Suzan-Lori Parks 365 Plays/365 Days Festival. Other credits include “As You Like It (Vassar and NYStage & Film), “Nothing in the World Like It” (Harold Clurman), and Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet” (Charas Center). On television, she has appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”

Her voice can be heard on various audio tours, including at The Detroit Institute of Arts and on Disney Mediterranean cruises.  She has also worked in film with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Allan Miller.
